Artist Garlant Unearths Norway

Ian Garlant, the former fashion designer, exhibits his works inspired by the dramatic isolated landscape of the Hardanger fjord in Norway.

Working with and within the Norwegian landscape, Garlant’s creative process involves burning, bathing and scraping pre-used wood, asphalt and sand of the fjord. These materials are transformed into mysterious artworks in the form of sculptural paintings, and can be seen at a four day Pop-up solo exhibition called UnEarth in March.

Ian Garlant was born in 1962 to an English father and Norwegian mother.  A former distinguished figure in the fashion world, Ian is now making art full time from his studio by the Hardanger fjord in Norway. UnEarth is Garlant’s first solo London exhibition of works of art.

Some of Garlant’s works included in the UnEarth exhibition respond to the late revered Norwegian poet, Olav H. Hauge who also lived by the same fjord.

Included in the exhibition will be photographs taken onsite at Garlant’s studio in Hardanger fjord documenting the artist’s extraordinary working methods and the surrounding natural environment.
